Set up the Sidepanel as a browser extension – Tekst

This guide walks you through installing the Sidepanel as a browser extension. The extension opens the Sidepanel next to the web tool you are already working in. If you work in the Outlook desktop application instead, see Set up the Sidepanel as an Outlook app.

Supported web tools

The extension recognizes the item you have open in:

Outlook on the web - email conversations
Salesforce - cases
SAP Service Cloud v1 - tickets

Salesforce works on Lightning and My Domain addresses, including sandboxes. For SAP, the extension supports Service Cloud v1; Service Cloud v2 is not supported.

Prerequisites

An active Tekst account.
A recent version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based). Firefox and Safari are not supported.
A connected Tekst integration for the tool you want to use it with (a mailbox, Salesforce, or SAP integration).

Installation steps

Open the Chrome Web Store and search for "Tekst" (the Web Store also works in Microsoft Edge).
Click "Add to Chrome" (or "Add extension" in Edge) and confirm.
Pin the Tekst icon to your browser toolbar so it is always within reach: click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar and select the pin next to Tekst. Hovering over the icon shows the tooltip "Open Tekst".
Open a supported page, select the item you want to review, and click the Tekst icon to open the Sidepanel.

The panel opens as a real browser side panel, docked beside the page rather than floating on top of it.

Installing on Microsoft Edge

Edge installs the extension from the Chrome Web Store as well. There is no Tekst listing in the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store, so the Chrome Web Store is the only place to get it. The first time you open a Chrome Web Store page, Edge shows a banner asking you to allow extensions from other stores. Accept it, then follow the same steps. Everything behaves identically afterwards.

Logging in

The first time you open the panel, you are asked to log in:

Log in signs you in with your Tekst username and password. A pop-up window opens for sign-in and closes on its own when you are done.
Log in via SSO signs you in through your organization's identity provider. Enter your organization's Tekst subdomain (the part before .tekst.com in <yourcompany>.tekst.com) and pick your organization's sign-in method. If you paste the full address instead, the field trims it down to the subdomain for you.

You are signed in once the panel shows the analysis header with the Actions and Extraction tabs below it. You can log out at any time from the button in the bottom-right corner of the panel.

If the panel shows the login screen again later, your session expired or you were signed out. Nothing loads until you sign in again.

Accounts with an "Outlook Only" seat

Some accounts are set up with the Outlook Only role. These accounts sign in through the Tekst apps - the Outlook add-in and this browser extension - but not the Tekst web platform. They work in the extension exactly like any other account. If you can review approvals in the panel but cannot sign in to the web platform, that is the seat type rather than a fault. Your Tekst administrator can confirm which role your account has.
