We have rebuilt the automation builder from the ground up. The new builder makes automations easier to read, faster to organize, and lets your whole team work on them together. It is live now for every workspace.
What is new
The redesigned builder keeps everything you already do with automations, but removes the friction of laying them out and working on them as a team.
- Automatic grid layout. Steps now snap into a clean, structured grid and the flow arranges itself as you add or remove steps. You no longer have to drag steps around to keep the automation tidy.
- Bigger, clearer steps. Each step is larger and easier to scan, with its icon, name, and status shown at a glance, so you can follow the whole flow without zooming in.
- Real-time collaboration. Several people can now open and edit the same automation at the same time. You can see who else is in the builder, and the step someone is editing is highlighted for everyone. You are no longer blocked when a colleague is working on the same automation.
- Rename your steps. You can give each step a clear, descriptive name and an optional description, which makes complex automations far easier to understand and hand over.
Why it matters
Automations are often built and maintained by more than one person over time. The old freeform canvas meant a lot of manual tidying, and only one person could safely work on a flow at once. The new builder removes both of those bottlenecks: layouts stay clean automatically, teammates can collaborate live, and well-named steps make it obvious what each part of the flow does. The result is automations that are quicker to build and much easier to maintain.
This release is also the foundation for upcoming automation improvements, so more enhancements will build on top of it.
Getting started
The new builder is already active. Open any automation to see it, or create a new one from scratch. If you are new to automations, start with What are automations? and Create your first automation flow.
